FORMER vice president Hishammuddin Hussein says he is ready to return and be active in Umno once again if his suspension is lifted.
Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong MP, said he never left the party even when he was was given a six-year suspension in January 2023.
“In three years of suspension, I have never attacked the party. Most importantly, I have never run away.
“It was the party supreme council that decided to suspend me.
“So, tomorrow (March 13), if the party leadership is really sincere and lift my suspension, I will return to Umno’s struggle,” said Hishammuddin in a video posted on Instagram on Thursday (March 12).
Hishammuddin also referred to the statement by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who said he is opening the doors to those who were sacked or suspended from the party.
Hishammuddin, a former Umno vice-president, said he was touched by Ahmad Zahid’s remarks.
Former Umno members who wish to rejoin must apply formally by writing to Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
In January 2023, former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was sacked from the party, while Hishammuddin and former party information chief Shahril Hamdan were suspended for six years.
