KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 – UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the Supreme Council will decide as to whether the party polls should be held this year of postponed for 18 months.
He said, it can be held either on June 10 or even postpone it after getting consent from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
“RoS cannot say no because it is stipulated in MNO Constitution. We usually postpone it in general election year, and that gives idea to some people that it (national polls) might be conducted this year.
“I think general election will be sometimes this year because take the cue from what the Prime Minister had hinted. After the budget was passed by the Dewan Rakyat after the third reading in , with 111 MPs supporting it and 108 against, we had lunch with him in December and it was when he said that election will be next year (2021),’ he said.
Ahmad who is also the Member of Parliament for Pontian said it is hoped that the Prime Minister will not lie.
“In my opinion, he was serious at that time, and for that we supported the Budget. According to him, election is this year since the emergency will end on August 1.
He said this through the segment ‘Terus Terang: Kita Tanya Tok Mat Maslan” on the UMNO Online facebook page last night.
In another matter, he also explained about the relationship between UMNO and PAS in Muafakat Nasional (MN).
“We had said to strengthen the Muafakat Nasional and contest on Barisan Nasional ticket if PAS refuse to join. Nothing can be done if they want to join PN. This is the understanding of a MN meeting attended by deputy presidents of both sides last week.
“So far, UMNO’s stand is clear, that is no DAP, no PKR and no PPBM.”
