KUALA LUMPUR, May 19 – UMNO Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said a special Parliament session should be held soon to discuss the Covid-19 and Palestinian issues.

He said, the special sitting on Covid-19 will enable Members of Parliament discuss the people’s fresh proposals on how the Standard Operation Procedures (SoP) and related issues can be further enhanced.

“They can approve a more dynamic and transparent allocation, they should be able to furnish details to respective minister. A week is enough to discuss this important issue,” said the Pontian MP in his Twitter account.

On Palestine, he said the MPs can give more views on what the government can do to assist them.

“A day deliberation is enough as the one we used to have. We represent the people but of course they cannot take it to the streets during the pandemic. So, their reps should take it to the Parliament,” he said.

Former premier Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had on 12 January 2009 called for a special Parliament sitting to debate and propose 10 resolutions about Palestine in light of Israelis attack on Gaza, which was attended by all MPs. It was when Malaysia uninamously condemn the aggression.

The Parliament was suspended when the Emergency Ordinance was proclaimed by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on January 12 this year to contain Covid-19.

It also covers all State Assemblies throughout the country.

However, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al Mustafa Billah Shah Sultan Ahmad Shah had on February 12 issued a decree that the Parliament session can resume under the emergency.
