KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 – The government decision to allow Parliament in session only after the 3rd phase of the Recovery Plan or Post-Pandemic Exit Plan is absolutely absurd, says Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
More puzzling is to allow all economic sector to resume business except those under the government’s ‘no-operate’ list.
“The Phase 3 No Operation list refers to high risk business deemed as agent for the spread of Covid-19 including pubs, SPA and beauty saloon.
“Does it mean the Parliament also falls under this category,” the Barisan Nasional chairman asked.
He also doesn’t comprehend how 40 per cent of the country’s population already getting two doses of vaccine is linked to the opening of Parliament session sometimes in September or October.
“The Parliamentarians had done with the two doses a long time ago, means the sitting can be done without any excuse.
“Even there were requests for it to be conducted online like in other countries, and they turned it down too.”
The MP for Bagan Datuk questions the government whether it was deliberately decided.
“The situation now is in disarray. The Parliamentary Democracy is in question.
“Whatever it is, we want the Parliament to resume its sitting as soon as possible because it enshrines our democracy.
“The Parliament is the legitimate legislative to discuss our rakyat issues in the country. It also acts as the check-and-balance instrument for the administration,” he said.
