KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said if the government is still dragging its feet on the reconvening of Parliament session, there is a possibility the House will dissolve automatically based on Article 55 of the Federal Constitution.
There were views that the Parliament should reconvene within six months after the last session or more precisely it should convene no later than June 29, 2021 and if it fails to do so, it will dissolve automatically.
However, he said it looks like the PN government is still reluctant to convene it immediately by giving so many excuses.
“Although the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers have said the Parliament must resume soon, there is no sign the government will oblige. The latest is, Speakers of Dewan Negara and Dewan Rakyat said Parliament can only sit in a hybrid manner in August or September,” he said in a FB posting.
The Bagan Datuk MP lamented at those who denied that Parliament can be dissolved automatically.
“They say the country is still under Emergency Ordinance, so Parliament cannot sit. Article 55 of the Federal Constitution does not apply.
“But The King has already said on February 24 that the Parliament can sit during the emergency period. They refuted what The King said.
“Its so simple, just reconvene the Parliament. What is stopping them? It is a symbol for the people’s rights and democracy,” he said.
