KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 – Turning down a motion to debate the flood issue at the Dewan Rakyat is insensitive, said Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
He said the Parliament is the right platform to debate and find solution to problems faced by the people.
“It is not only to follow the routine of meeting agenda. It is a moral and democratic institution for the multiracial citizens. The Parliament should emerge as a champion to solve their crisis and finding solution to it.
“It is also a place for the government’s reps to discuss any people’s matter,” he said in a FB posting.
He was commenting on the decision by Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Harun to turn down an urgent motion on the flood issue and denied the rights of some representatives to debate the crisis that plagued five states.
“There is nothing more important than discussing the issue. No meeting agenda that can supersede that issue which has been tearing apart the states over the past few days.
“And no Member of Parliaments is above the people’s issue. Our Parliament must become a first class institution and not like others.”
The Rantau state assemblyman cited how Malaysia is trailing in terms of Parliamentary maturity where it only prioritise meeting order and the government’s accountability.
“It should be better,” he said.
