KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 – Umno respectsand accepts any decision by the Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar whether to dissolve the State Assembly or not, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He says the party will never supersede the Sultan’s decree as it is his wisdom to weigh it accordingly to the State Constitution.
“We cannot overpass the constitution of any state because it’s up to His Royal Highness Sultan Ibrahim to consider it at the advise of the Mentri Besar Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad as to whether the assembly needs to be dissolved of otherwise.
“We will abide by the Ruler’s decision and will follow the political process set by the Election Commission,” he says during a FB Live interview with NR Channel TV.
Commenting further on the election, the Bagan Datuk MP denies allegation that it is part of BN strategy to wrest power in Johor as had been the case in Melaka state election last November.
“We do not mean to complicate the people although a new mandate is feasible and it cannot be avoided.
“BN has 28 seats while the Opposition has 27, meaning that we only have a one seat majority. The Mentri Besar has his own jurisdiction in the matter. They have provided the scientific data of it and BN and Umno Supreme Council had studied it.
“I have invited him to present it to the Council but the final say lies in the hands of the Sultan.”
“I have invited him to brief the Supreme Council on this matter but the final say is up to the Sultan.”
