Internal bickering will only weakens Umno

INTERNAL bickering in the party will on weaken Umno in the near future, says political analysts.
Ariff Aizuddin of Unitersiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) said Umno face the risk of registering more support deficit among the country’s voters, especially when they are blase with such adverse developments.

“This can lead to more destruction and opening more chances for the opposition the the 16th general election.

“Umno must be more serious when in comes to attending matters like this, instead pay more attention to the people and stop confronting each other within the party.

“Should they failed to close ranks, it will cost them heavily in the short and long terms. The opposition will of course turn it into a political capital,” he told FMT.

However, he said it is still not top late for Umno to overcome it by finding an amicable solution to it.

“It must be settled amicably. If internal bickering can be overcome, it wont take a few more general elections for Umno to rise again,” he said.

In a recent spat, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh threatened to sue the party’s Supreme Council member Lokman Noor Adam for accusing him of having a hidden agenda to bring back Hishammuddin Hussein and make him the next prime minister.

In a minute video on NRCChannel TV, Lokman has openly labeled Akmal as ‘H20 youth chief’. Hishammuddin, the former vice president is now on suspension.

Lokman also claimed that apart from being ‘H20 guy’, Akmal was accused of trying to break Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan good relations in the present government.

Another analyst from University of Malaya Awang Azman Awang Pawi meantime said Umno should attend to such opinions of Lokman.

“If we shut him up, Umno face the risk of losing the people’s trust and this will give more mileage to the opposition.

“Umno will rise again if they accept such opinions. All they need to do is strengthen the party discipline and go back to basic.

“In this context, Lokman’s courage should serve as a reminder that Umno needs such an openness to regain the public’s support in the next general election,” he said.
