MALAYSIANS must rise above differences in politics, culture, race and religion when celebrating National Day, said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“Independence is for all Malaysians. We must not allow differences in political affiliation, culture, race or religion to prevent us from celebrating independence,” he said after the 11th Quran Hour 2025 event at Masjid Negara on Saturday, which is part of National Day celebrations.
“InsyaAllah, the ties between Sarawak, Sabah and the peninsular, as well as all citizens regardless of background, will drive us to act as one nation and to set aside differences in celebrating National Day and Malaysia Day.”
On the protests in Indonesia, he said dialogue was the best way forward.
“What is most important to remember is that there are no problems that cannot be resolved at the negotiating table. There is no need for demonstrations or protests.”
Zahid said Malaysia would not interfere in the affairs of other countries.
“I feel that President Prabowo Subianto is very approachable. InsyaAllah, the issues that have been raised can be negotiated and resolved.”
