THE Umno general assembly scheduled in November has been postponed to January to avoid clashing with the upcoming Sabah state election.
Party secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was made following the Election Commission’s announcement that the 17th Sabah state election will be held on Nov 29, with nominations on Nov 15.
“As the dates coincide with the Umno General Assembly 2025, which was earlier planned for Nov 26 to 29, Umno has decided to postpone the assembly to Jan 14 to 17,” he said in a statement on Friday (Oct 17).
Asyraf Wajdi said the postponement would allow Umno’s leadership and machinery nationwide to focus their efforts on helping Sabah Barisan Nasional regain the people’s mandate.
“Our priority now is to ensure Barisan can once again lead the state government for the well-being and prosperity of the people of Sabah,” he added.
