PRIME MINISTER Anwar Ibrahim has wished all leaders and delegates a successful gathering as the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) opens its 2025 General Assembly, emphasising the importance of orderly discussions and debates grounded in the interests of the people.
In a statement posted on Facebook on Wednesday, Anwar, who also chairs Pakatan Harapan, expressed hope that the assembly, which runs from 14 to 17 January at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur after being postponed twice in August and November, will contribute to national cohesion and reinforce a Malaysia guided by Madani principles.
“Malaysia requires mature politics, based on consensus, mutual respect, and the capacity to work together to ensure stability, prosperity, and a fairer, more inclusive future for all citizens,” Anwar wrote.
He added that in today’s increasingly challenging political and economic environment, true strength comes not from perpetuating divisions but from unity, celebrated wisdom, and a shared commitment to prioritising the interests of the people and the nation.
“In the political and economic landscape that grows ever more complex, genuine strength is not born from differences that are continuously stoked, but from consolidated unity, wisdom that is recognised, and a joint resolve to place the rakyat and the country first,” he said.
Anwar also shared a photograph of himself attending the UMNO 2023 General Assembly, signalling continuity and respect for Malaysia’s democratic political traditions.
This year’s assembly brings together a total of 6,412 delegates nationwide, including 2,928 for the main UMNO gathering, 1,165 from the Women’s Wing, 1,173 from the Youth Wing, and 1,146 from the Puteri Wing, reflecting broad participation across the party’s structures.
The Prime Minister’s remarks underline his call for political maturity and cross-party civility, highlighting the significance of constructive dialogue even amid competitive party politics, as Malaysia prepares for upcoming electoral challenges including the 17th Sabah state election.
