UMNO Information Chief Shahril Hamdan said after a year of Muafakat Nasional (MN), now is the time to move into a new phase of true struggle.
“Of course, one of the things that will be emphasized is to add new criteria, especially new offer and adding more substance to strengthen the cooperation. My hope is that in the second year of the MN, especially in the coming months, we will add strength to MN.
“Maybe many out there have seen unity under the MN banner but some may question its policy and what is there to offer the people. So, I really hope members will embark on a more vigorous efforts in its struggle.”
For the record, after UMNO / Barisan Nasional (BN) lost in the 14th General Election (GE-14), UMNO and PAS have began to look for common ground.
Finally, on 14 September 2019, both declared the formation of MN which carries the agenda of ummah unification as a pillar to prosper the plural Malaysia.
UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS President Datuk Seri Tuan Guru Haji Abdul Hadi Awang signed the MN charter at a historic gathering at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Center (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur.
