KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 16 – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) look seriously into the spiraling price of goods as the people are beginning to feel the pinch out of it.
He said the government needs to act immediately, especially during which the people is finding it difficult to make ends meet.
“We must be aware of the current situation which indicates how bad the country’s economy is, with a high unemployment rate.
“People now are lack of money and they deserve help. I hope the issue can be attended to quickly so that it won’t burgeon like the political problem,” he said in a FB posting, today.
He cited an incident yesterday when the chicken price notched RM10 per kilogram and it happened five times in two weeks. According to reports, previously chicken meat was sold at RM7 and increased gradually to RM8, RM8.50 and RM9 per kilogram since last Friday.
“The people will be celebrating Aidilfitri next month. Imagine the situation that may arise,” he said.
On March 8, the MP for Bagan Datuk expressed concern over the price of beef which was expected to increase to RM45 per kilogram and urged the ministry to take a ‘peep’ into it.
