Umno is no hooligans, says Ahmad Maslan

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 – Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Umno had never resorted to hooliganism or ‘Abang Long’ with anybody.

He said Umno has in fact opened its friendship to PAS, especially in contesting the Melaka state election under Muafakat Nasional (MN).

“My Press statement on Oct 28 after the Supreme Council (MT) meeting chaired by our President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi clearly stated how we were keen to continue working with PAS as envisaged in the party’s General Assembly 2020, which was to strengthen MN in Melaka state election.

“The understanding was, PAS was allowed to use its own logo. This was in line with the agreement reached by MN in its meeting on 19 Oct 2020 and 18 November 2020.

“All this were meant to avoid clashes among us and at the same time maintain the use of our respective logos in the election,” he said.

However, he said PAS Central Committee decided on Nov 1 to contest under Perikatan Nasional in Melaka when Umno MT had agreed they should contest under MN.

Yesterday, a PAS leader claimed how Umno has resorted to hooliganism that failed the effort to unite PAS, Umno and PPBM, resulting in they face each other in Melaka.
