KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 5 – Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said without losing his respect for Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, he said PAS president’s view that Umno had violated the Muafakat Nasional (MN) Charter was absurd and misguided.
Mohamad who is also Barisan Nasional Deputy Chairman said Umno has never violated it.
“To our friends in PAS, let us not forget that MN was not established with the goal of PPBM must be a part of it. In fact, one of the reasons MN was inked was to oppose PH (Pakatan Harapan). PPBM was a component of PH at that time,” he said in a FB posting.
The Rantau State Assemblyman also said forcing Umno to accept PPBM is contrary to the true spirit of MN.
“Especially when remembering how PPBM conspired with DAP to oust the Umno-led government.
“Secondly, it is true that MN must cover all Malays. But whoever we want to bring into MN must be compatible with the interests of Umno and PAS. The MN Charter must be interpreted in line with the current political reality of Umno and PAS,” he said.
Mohamad further explained that Umno has never invited PKR, Amanah, PUTRA or Pejuang to join MN even though they are also part of the ummah.
“Honestly, because UMNO DOES NOT WANT TO OFFEND PAS. PAS and Malaysians are aware that the delegates at the Umno General Asembly have decided not to cooperate with PPBM. We are bound by this decision.
“We did not register MN because Umno wants the Malays to see it as a platform for all, and not just a political instrument for Umno and PAS.
“So don’t deck because Umno does not want to accept PPBM. The interests of the Malays and Muslims are far greater than the interests of PPBM joining MN. So, let us not do something that will eventually alienate the Malays from MN.
“Hopefully, PAS President Tan Sri Hadi Awang will continue to be with us in exploring various new dimensions in developing the empowerment of the Malay race, God willing,” he exclaimed.
