KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 – Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he is not afraid should he is fated to join Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak behind bars because ‘that was exactly what the opponents had planned earlier’.
Addressing about 5,000 Umno members and others at the World Trade Center today, he said BN and Umno opponents was left to no choice but to demonise and weaken the coalition by planning to jail some Umno leaders, hoping to demoralise members in run-up to the 15th general election.
“What had befallen Datuk Seri Najib has instead united us more than before. We must take this as a challenge.
“In showing solidarity towards him, let us put aside all differences and realise the filthy tactic of the past two governments to wreck us apart.
“What happened is the result of an injustice,” he said.
The Bagan Datuk MP also quashed away allegations that Umno/BN is pushing for an early general election because he is scared to end up like Najib.
“This is not about me. I am not afraid. Justice is in their hands although we want to believe that the judiciary is free from any political dictation.
“This is about forming a legitimate government, a government chosen by the people. Go back to them, let them choose.
“We have seen how the 22-month and 17-month governments collapsed because of bickering among them, wrongdoings and failure. That led to their incompetency in administering the nation.”
Zahid added not only that majority of Malaysians want a faster general election but also some quarters who are not comfortable with the country’s political stability.
“We have a prime minister from Umno but the government is not BN. It is at rickety. The ultimate answer to all these questions is a general election,” he said.
