THE decision regarding a collaboration between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the 16th General Election (GE16) will be determined by the BN supreme council, said BN deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan.
Mohamad, who is also Umno deputy president, said BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to bring this matter to the upcoming BN supreme council meeting.
“That is our standard operating procedure, whatever is done and decided at the BN supreme council level is a consensus decision, a joint decision.
“Until there is a meeting of the BN supreme council committee, many assumptions are made by people, but in the end, after they make a decision, that will be the policy,” he said after officiating the Umno Rembau division representatives meeting at Hotel Royal Chulan in Seremban, yesterday.
He was commenting on Zahid’s recent statement that BN will continue to cooperate with PH to face GE16.
Earlier, MCA, also a component of BN, warned the Umno president not to make unilateral decisions regarding the coalition partnership before GE16.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong previously claimed that many of Zahid’s previous decisions were ‘unilateral’ or one-sided, including his statement of wanting the BN-PH cooperation to continue in GE16.
Regarding the need for BN coalition members to discuss this issue to avoid various speculations, Mohamad, who is also the Rembau Umno division chief, said they could discuss the matter.
“If any party wants to discuss it in the meeting, there is no issue. (if) MCA or MIC feels uncomfortable with that statement, bring it up in the meeting.
“We can get an early consensus, rather than continuing to speculate. It is better to make a decision. The important thing is that members are not confused,” he said.
