THE Umno supreme council has decided to initiate legal action against Rembia state assemblyman Muhammad Jailani Khamis for defecting and joining PAS.

The party’s secretary-general Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party will sue Jailani for RM100mil in compensation as stated in the agreement made.

“The Umno supreme council meeting today (July 31) has reviewed and decided to initiate legal action and demand RM100mil in compensation from the lawmaker who has gone against the party’s stance,” he told the press after the meeting at the Umno headquarters at Menara Dato Onn here on Wednesday night (July 31).

Among other matters brought up during the meeting included the party’s arrangements for the upcoming Nenggiri by-election, said Asyraf Wajdi.

“All members of the Umno supreme council will gather and coordinate the party and Barisan Nasional’s machinery in every polling district in Nenggiri in the by-election that will begin with nomination on Aug 3,” he said.

Asyraf Wajdi noted that the council also condemned the assassination of Hamas leader and political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran, on Tuesday (July 30).
