UMNO has yet to succeed in recapturing the Malay support after its entry into the Unity Government, said Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Umno president attributed it to issues and sentiments not properly managed by the party and 18 components in the government.
As such, the BN chairman suggested for a new approach being introduced and adopted by means of verbal technology and unconventional news platform.
“Yes, Umno is yet to recapture the Malay support. I admit its still very low, and that is why the sentiments and issues hovering must be attended to accordingly.
“Looking back, personalities who used to spew lies and slanders on Umno are now in the same government. As such, we need a new method in dealing with it,” he said in an interview in conjunction with Umno general assembly.
Umno had on November 22 pledged its support to join Pakatan Harapan in forming the Unity Government initiated by the 16th King.
As to whether its presence in the Unity Government is the main factor why the Malay support declined, Zahid refuted it.
“The question of BN-PH cooperation should not arise but we have to come up with clear and strong explanation to the Malays,” he said. – Berita Harian
