WANITA Umno has submitted three names to the party’s leadership to be considered for the Mahkota by-election.
Its chief Dr Noraini Ahmad said it is now up to the party leaders to make a decision.
“Whoever the party decides, we will give our full support. What’s important is that Barisan Nasional can win,” said the Deputy Women, Family, and Community Development Minister at a press conference after opening a child protection advocacy programme at SK Seri Kelebang, Chemor near Ipoh today.
The polling day for the by-election is set for Sept 28, with nominations and early voting scheduled for Sept 14 and 24 respectively.
The seat fell vacant after its assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, passed away on Aug 2.
Sharifah Azizah, a former Johor Wanita Umno chief, won the seat with a 5,166 majority in the March 2022 state election against Amanah’s Taqiuddin Cheman, Mohamad Nor Lingan from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, and Mohamed Noor Suleiman from Warisan.
