Puteri age limit to 40 under review

UMNO is proposing changes to its party election methods and increasing the age limit for members of its Puteri (young women’s) wing to 40 years from the current 35.

Party vice president Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the proposal has been presented at state and division level across the country for discussion and fine-tuning.

He added that the Umno central committee would review feedback and recommendations submitted by state and division leaders.

“In strengthening the party, Umno is always open to considering any proposals submitted through motions”This includes a proposal to raise the age limit for Puteri Umno members to 40 years and to change the method of electing Umno’s top leadership.

“These efforts aim to ensure the party remains strong and resilient, particularly in addressing challenges and meeting current political needs,” he said in a statement on Facebook on Monday (Jan 27).

Under the party’s current constitution, the maximum age limit for ordinary members of Puteri Umno is 35, while the chief can serve until 40.
