MASJID TANAH, Nov 5 – Candidates for Melaka state election on November 20 will have to sign a declaration to avoid any party hopping, said Barisan Nasional election director Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Since there is yet a law or provision to stop any State Assemblyman and Member of Parliament to jump ship and join other parties, such a documentation is the only method to control the act.
“We have made preparation… our legal team has looked into the matter on how to avoid those who won on BN ticket to cross over… to ensure political stability in the country, especially in Melaka,” he said here.
He earlier handed over the BN election machinery to the state constituencies of Masjid Tanah, namely Lendu, Taboh Naning and Ayer Limau. Also present was Melaka Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
On those dropped from the list, Mohamad who is also Umno Deputy President said the incumbents had given their best of service.
“They are here with us today to give support… they had represented their respective constituencies for three terms and it is time to hand it over to new candidates. This is how the party transformation will take place and rejuvenate Umno as what promised during the party General Assembly.
“It is an ongoing process. As the state election director, my duty is to expedite it,” he said.
The election Commission has set the polling day for November 20, nomination on Nov 8 and early voting on Nov 16.
