KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 – Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the government and the Opposition has been nullified ‘automatically’.
This happens yesterday when Pakatan Harapan (PH) purposely violated it by rejecting the motion brought by the Home Ministry (KDN) in the Dewan Rakyat.
“The Opposition has breached the MoU. This is my personal view. So the government and the Prime Minister are no longer bound by the MoU.
“The MoU is as good as nullified. Let’s move on,” said the Pontian MP on his Twitter account.
Earlier yesterday, the government bloc failed to get approval for the proposed Subsection 4 (5) of the Security Offenses (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA).
The motion tabled by Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was not approved when only 84 MPs supported it while 86 others didn’t.
For the record, on Sept 13 last year, the Federal Government and the PH signed an MoU on Transformation and Political Stability.
The MoU signed at the Parliament Building covers six items, namely the Strengthening of the COVID-19 Plan, Administrative Transformation and Parliamentary Reform, Independence of Judicial Institutions, the 1963 Malaysia Agreement (MA63) and the Establishment of the Steering Committee.
