Bersatu’s call for Nenggiri petition is a gimmick

BERSATU’s call for voters or residents to step forward as witnesses to a petition against the results of the Nenggiri by-election is just a political gimmick to cover their shame, says Kelantan Umno.

Kelantan Umno information chief Zawawi Othman said Bersatu leaders do not need to waste their time filing a petition as Nenggiri’s people have chosen their new assemblyman from Barisan Nasional.

This is just a cheap political gimmick to cover their shame over the repeat losses Bersatu has suffered in by-elections.

It is human to place the blame for one’s weaknesses or failures on others, just like what Kelantan Bersatu is doing in calling for Nenggiri’s voters to become witnesses for their petition, even though it has been two months since the by-election, he told FMT.

Zawawi said Bersatu leaders are welcome to challenge the by-election’s results as part of the democratic process.

On Oct 9, Kelantan Bersatu chief Kamaruddin Nor said the party has been unable to file a petition so far as no one has offered themselves as a witness.

A petition can be put forward within six months after the by-election. We have until February next year. While our chances of filing a petition are slim, we still hope a witness will be brave enough to come forward,  he said.

Kamaruddin had said on Aug 21 that PN is compiling evidence to file a petition against the victory in Nenggiri by BN’s Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani on Aug 17.

He said the information gathered so far included allegations of bribery and threats against voters throughout the by-election campaign.

Azmawi won the Nenggiri by-election with a 3,352-vote majority, beating PN’s Rizwadi Ismail.
