Postponement of delegates meeting and general assembly

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 – Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced today the postponement of divisional delegates meeting and the general assembly due to Covid-19.

He referred to Article 8.2 of Umno Constitution that reads, ‘the annual general assembly must be held once a year on the date set by the Supreme Council as long as it is not more than 18 months after the previous seating’

“The general assembly last held on 6-7 December 2019, hence June 5, 2021 will be the last day it must be held. In line with the Article, the delegates meeting is in March/April 2021 while the assembly in May/June 2021. The exact dates will be announced later,” he said.

The postponement involves 764 conferences which require four delegates meetings for each and every 191 Umno divisions nationwide.

“Since it will draw a big crowd, there is a tendency that Covid-19 can wide spread. The MT has given its nod via a circular resolution.”
