KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 24 – Must the Perikatan Nasional government risk the well-being and survival of future generations by exhausting the National Trust Fund (KWAN) on Covid vaccine?
“That shouldn’t happen. We are gambling on their future,” said UMNO Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
“In the 2021 Budget, RM3 billion has been allocated for the vaccination of 83% of Malaysians. However, the details were not disclosed,” he said in a statement.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman added that the allocation for the COVID Nasional Immunization Program was increased to RM5 billion last month.
“The aim is to speed up the target of vaccinating 80% of the population by December instead of February 2022 as announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin previously. So why does the current government suddenly need funds from KWAN?
“KWAN was established about 30 years ago for the benefit of future generations as the country’s natural resources are depleting,” he added.
He added that since this matter is of national interest, it should be discussed and considered thoroughly by all parties with high transparency.
“So far, there has been no discussion between members of the government administration and elected representatives to ensure the existence of a check and balance process. In fact, there is no room for the Parliamentary select committee to ensure transparency and accountability as Parliament is still suspended, the impact of the declaration of emergency,” he said.
