Is Emergency really helping the people?

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 – What’s the point of having a state of emergency if we cannot assist the people, said Youth Chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

He said the Youth is of the same stance that emergency is no longer needed after August 1st since it failed to bring down the number of Covid-19 infection case.

“I don’t want to say who is right or wrong between the Health DG and minister in-charge of the law although their statements always contradict each other.

“Health DG Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah said only the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Al- Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah) has the say in deciding as to whether emergency should continue of cease,” he said in a Facebook posting, today.

He also said the Law Minister on the other hand clarified only the Cabinet can advise the King on the matter.

“The prime minister had said earlier that under the Emergency Ordinance, a special committee is formed to advise the King. In this manner, no need to mislead the people with such statements. I don’t think the PM simply joked about the committee,” he said.

For the Youth, he said it is advisable that the government make full use of the remaining one and a half month of the emergency to really help the people.

He outlines three major things the government should attend to:

  1. Instruct the banks to offer a free of extra charge and interest moratorium to the affected income brackets, including B40;
  2. Instruct EPF to allow the people access to i-Sinar and i-Lestari 2.0; and
  3. Control the sipralling prices of daily goods.
