Don’t give excuses not to reconvene Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 – The government should reconvene the Parliament immediately and stop giving excuses, Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.
The Rantau rep said there is no reason at all to avoid it on grounds that His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah did not specifically say what month must the session be called.
In fact, he said the government’s previous announcement through the National Recovery Plan that Parliament could be opened by September or October was also not a certainty.
It is subject to various conditions such as case reduction of Covid-19 new infection and vaccination rates through various phases.
“Parliament does not need various phases and conditions to be opened because it is the real platform for all recovery efforts be debated and discussed,” he said in a Facebook posting.
Mohamad also expressed his sincere gratitude to the King for his wisdom and urged all parties not to turn it into their political agenda.
“Politicising his command will not help recovery.
“Any reason to delay the Parliament session is not only anti-democratic but offends the dignity and wisdom of the King’s institution which is independent and apolitical,” he said.
