Dark episode in our democracy – Mohamad

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 – Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said Istana Negara’s statement on the Emergency Ordinance had unveiled the ugly heads behind the government decision to revoke it without the King’s consent.
The announcement  was made without His Majesty’s consent and the actions of the Government, especially Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) and the Attorney General had invited the wrath of His Majesty the Yang Di Pertuan Agong.
“They did not abide by his order for the proposal to repeal all Emergency Ordinances be tabled and debated in Parliament. The Government’s action in this matter is unparliamentary, unconstitutional and has placed the noble position of the royal institution in a black spot,” he said through a post on Facebook.
Mohamad stressed that those concerned must take responsibility and resign immediately.
“Parliamentary institutions have been tainted by this irresponsible action. This event is a black spot in the history of Malaysian parliamentary democracy,” he said.
