Look after people’s wellbeing during endemic

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 – President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government still has full responsibility to look after the people’s wellbeing once Covid-19 pandemic is categorised as an endemic, particularly in containing new infection.
Apart from taking care of the economy, the government must ensure the safety and health of the people.
He was referring to some views on the social media which, among others mentioned that when the endemic is declared, all sectors will be reopened as usual and there is a tendency for the people to be infected.
“I do not agree with them. It can give a very bad impression on the government as if it is trying to get away with it,” he said in a statement on his Facebook account.
Malaysia, he said has a good medical system with a large allocation allocated to it every year to help the people achieve a standard of health.
“We provide efficient, appropriate and effective promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services. In treating dengue, for instance.
“Similarly with Covid-19, infection control should be continued by the government despite having achieved cluster immunity.”
He said, this includes the aspect of SOP compliance, especially in public places and workplaces as well as in high infection areas.
