Despite big win, Umno is open for cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 – Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki gave assurances that Umno is still open to cooperation despite a thumping victory in Melaka state election recently.

It is willing to work together with others, notably Pas in the name of ummah, he said, suggesting for Muafakat Nasional be stengthened.

“We are always open for ummah integration. Although winning two-third majority in Melaka, Umno leadership is still open for it,” he said in a Facebook posting.

Asyraf said Umno leadership had called for a meeting with Pas before the election. Pas was led by its Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Mat.

“At that time, we carried the mandate given by the Supreme Council to offer Pas working together with BN by using their logo. We never asked them to contest under BN’s logo.

“Furthermore, we did offer three DUN seats for Pas to contest, including Duyung to Melaka Pas Commissioner Datuk Kamaruddin.” he said.

“Unfortunately, Pas was more inclined to offer made by PPBM to contest where Umno put its candidates. Their deputy president had even given his words not to contest at constituencies won by Umno in the 14th general election.”
