KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 – Umno conveyed its condolences to families of 48 flood fatalities since the disaster strucked some States since last December.
Party President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said as it is the biggest casualty since the disaster hit the country in 1971 (30 people) and 21 in 2014, the government should heed a call by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for a post-mortem be conducted.
Umno, he said is saddened with the lack of coordination among government agencies in reaching out the victims and aid them. They were supposed be mobilised by NADMA (National Disaster Management Agency) which was established in 2014.
“Umno appreciate all the contribution of up to RM61,000 announced by the prime minister.
“It is hoped a speedy disbursement can be achieved. We need to cut all the red tapes in order to carry ourt assistance to those affected.”
The Bagan Datuk MP also suggested the Dewan Rakyat calls for a special meeting soon to discuss the matter.
He also wants the government to consider allowing those badly affected to withdraw a sum of RM10,000 one of to help them build their life again.
