Don’t drag the Palace into controversy – Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi paid tribute to the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah who was full of wisdom in accepting the resignation of Datuk Dr. Afifi Al-Akiti from the position of Orang Kaya-kaya Imam Paduka Tuan as Orang Besar Delapan Perak and Member of the Perak State Assembly, following the controversial recording involving Dr. Wrap.
He said the Sultan agreed to accept the resignation of Dr. Afifi to ensure that the Perak Palace and the Islamic institution are not dragged into the controversy.


“In addition, the position directly have impact son His Majesty.

“I hope His Majesty’s consent will stop any attempt to overthrow the Monarchy due to the action of those who are supposed to preserve the good name and glory of Islam and the King.
“On behalf of Umno the party that places Islam and the King at the utmost, I am confident that the consent of His Majesty is proof of his commitment to matters that affect the sensitivity of the royal and multi-religious in this country,” he said in a press release issued today.
Earlier, Sultan Nazrin agreed to accept the resignation of Dr Afifi who holds the title of Orang Kaya Kaya Imam Paduka Tuan and Official Member of the Perak State Assembly.
It was reported that Dr Afifi applied for resignation following the viralled materials on the social media deemed very tarnishing to him and the Palace over the last two weeks.
