Umno never used executive power in judiciary

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 – Allegation that Umno is using executive power in the judiciary is not true, said Secretary-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.
In 2018 and 2019 under the government of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad-led Pakatan Harapan, all selected political prosecutions against Umno leaders began, in addition to 15 cases of prosecution of PH leaders being dropped and prosecuted, he said.
“It started in 2018 and 2019, remember what they did? They changed the Chief Justice to Richard Malanjun, changed the Attorney General (AG) from Apandi Ali to Tommy Thomas and the MACC Chief Commissioner to Latheefa Koya, who we know is a member of the PKR Supreme Leadership Council. Who can deny that?
“Tommy is Chin Peng’s former defense lawyer and he was certainly proposed by DAP. The same goes for Richard Malanjun. That how the selective political prosecution begun. Tommy was there to acquit PH’s 15 leaders.
“Their people were protected while ours were charged,” he said during an interview with NRChannelTV, last night.
The Pontian MP was also accused to have received funds from 1MDB 2013.
“Tan Sri Shahrir and I were the leaders at that time. So it was me and him. I was then released but not Tan Sri Shahrir.”
He also said the former Puteri Chief who at that time also embroiled in similar case was suddenly saved after jumping to PPBM.
“Tun Mahathir, Malays do not forget easily. Don’t think that they can easily forget,” he said.
