UMNO secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said many who have left the party are now applying re-entry into Umno.
However, he refused to name them but confirmed has received some applications.
“Many personel who left us are sending in their application to rejoin Umno,” he said today.
He said this when commenting on the possibility of Umno revoking the suspension of Sembrong Member of Parliament Hishammuddin Hussein and former information chief Shahril Hamdan.
Umno Supreme Council in its meeting on Monday has lifted the suspension of former Pasir Salak parliamentarian Tajuddin Abdul Rahman with immediate effect.
“We have not received any official application from them (Hishammuddin and Shahril,” Asyraf said.
Tajuddin was under 6-year suspension beginning September 2022 for his criticism of the party.
Hishammuddin and Shahril, also suspended for six years, are two prominent names in Umno.
Former Rembau Member of Parliament and Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is among a few sacked from the party on January 27 last year.
