UMNO’s annual general assembly will take place from Aug 20-23.
In a statement, party secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said Umno’s branches will hold their conferences from April 7 to May 25 while the party’s divisions will meet from June 9 to July 27.
He said the dates were finalised during today’s Supreme Council meeting.
Asyraf did not disclose whether senior government leaders will be invited to the general assembly.
The 2023 Umno general assembly saw prime minister and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim return to the assembly for the first time since June 1998, and Loke Siew Fook being the first DAP secretary-general to attend the gathering.
Senior government leaders were not invited to last year’s general assembly, which only featured its party members and representatives from Barisan Nasional.
Separately, Asyraf said Umno takes a serious view of the current developments involving religious sensitivities, race, and the institution of the Malay rulers.
“These developments have caused unease and unrest within Malaysia’s multireligious and multiracial society,” he said, without elaborating.
Asyraf said Umno calls on all Malaysians to continue upholding the principles of the Rukun Negara and the supremacy of the Federal Constitution.
He also said Umno would not compromise with any party that attempts to question the position of Islam as the religion of the federation and the privileges granted to Bumiputeras.
