KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 – Party President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Umno needs to be resilient in facing reality of the current political scenario.
He expected that the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) will see no single party secures a majority to form a government because the voting pattern in the last GE14 was feared to has affected the results of the next GE.
“We have to embrace the new political reality and my prediction is that, there will be not be a single dominant political party like the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition can form the government. I am very worried GE15 will have the same voting pattern as GE14 and this is quite dangerous.
“In that manner, political flexibility should be considered from now on for the formation of a new government after GE15. In this case, not only the formula but the equation should be looked at to determine the best method so that the priority to the people like health, education and economy are placed above all.”
He said this in the ‘Ask, I Will Answer’ live program on NR ChannelTV Facebook hosted by moderator Rafi Awang Kechik.
With regard to the new line of politics, Zahid further said it is a method to determine the direction according to the political mold.
“I took the example when I mentioned the political line in Perak when Umno had enough numbers to be the state government again, and Perak was the first state to involve cooperation between various parties.
“At this point, the confidence and supply (CSA) agreement is allocated, among which is the allocation by the state assemblyman or government MP is given equally to the Opposition reps,” he said.
Zahid explained that the lineup proved to be successful because through the vote of confidence held during the state state assembly, there was unanimous support for the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
“So it means that the political alignment is based on the flexibility that has been negotiated,” he said.
