MASJID TANAH, Oct 20 – Umno has not yet decided on any cooperation with any political party in the Melaka state election (PRN), said party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
He said that at this point, the party only wants to focus on its candidates who can bring victory to the party.
Adding that the final decision on any cooperation will only be announced after the Political Bureau and also the Supreme Council (MKT) meetings, he said the MKT will be held next week or before nomination day.
However, he also admitted that various parties met him to give their views on the PRN but the final decision would only be announced at a appropriate time.
“Various parties come to us and we are open. Anyone who wants to give their views is welcome but all decisions are decided collectively when the time comes,” he said.
Yesterday, the Election Commission (EC) set Nov 20 as the polling date for the Melaka PRN, with the nomination date on Nov 8 while early voting on Nov 16.
The Melaka DUN was dissolved on Oct 4 last year following four State Assemblymen (ADUN) withdrawing support for the leadership of Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
The four former assemblymen are Datuk Seri Idris Haron (BN-Sungai Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (BN-Pantai Kundor), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Bebas-Pengkalan Batu) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Bersatu-Telok Mas).
