Journalists role in fostering national unity – President

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 – Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today praised the role of journalists in fostering inter-racial harmony and national unity.
He said journalists also must develop the feeling of mutual respect, trust and understanding among Malaysians.

“I wish you a happy National Journalist Day celebrated on May 29, declared by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government since 2018.

“This day is, among others, to recognise the role and contribution of Malaysian journalists in the process of nation building by supporting effort to create prosperity for the people,” he said in a FB posting.
The BN chairman, however said the world of journalism is also embracing new challenges.
“The speed of information technology and social media is leading to real-time reporting competition, it also craves a balance between professionalism and the latest speed of reporting. Delivering information that is transparent, fair and equitable despite the demands of time and editorial.
“Malaysia is not a country of conflict but in certain circumstances journalists also face security threats,” he said.
Zahid also expressed his appreciation to the journalists in providing the latest information to the public, especially when the country is facing Covid-19.
