KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob told the BN Convention here today that he will not delay in choosing the right date for the 15th general election.
“I will not delay it even for a second when the time comes. We in Barisan Nasional must be prepared to face it,” he said to the applause of the full-packed BN supporters at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Center here.
In preparing for it, Ismail who is also Umno vice president outlined three actions need to be attended to, namely teamwork, discipline and loyalty to the party.
Also present were BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, president of the component parties, BN advisory board chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak and chairman of the BN coalition parties.
Ismail Sabri added that BN must also strive to win the hearts of the people and he is committed to ensuring that his government policies are beneficial to the people.
“Besides that, the best service should be given to the people. The government is always alert, caring, looking for the best initiatives and immediately solving local problems,” he said.
He earlier posted on the social media that the Barisan Nasional Convention will be a witness to solidarity and agreement of a coalition of parties that has proven so well in championing the rights of the people and the nation.
Through a post on his official FB, he also wished BN a happy anniversary and expressed his appreciation for the support of the grassroots and the party’s coalition leadership.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said BN is not just a political alliance but it can be described as ‘an idea’.
He said, due to the nature of ‘ideas’ that are evolving and constantly sprouting, BN is a mindset of consensus, unity in diversity with a progressive culture and political approach.
The Umno Deputy President explained that this proved that the existence of BN was a political solution to the impact of the May 13, 1969 incident.
BN came up as an idea to manage the country after the conflict. It was not set up just to pursue power, lulled by ‘omnipotent finance’ or simply to form a government.
“BN was born to rehabilitate a country that was badly affected by the racial conflict. Since the establishment of BN, it has pioneered various thoughtful ideas. Power sharing, development politics, wealth distribution and poverty eradication, ”he said when officiating the BN Convention at the Merdeka Hall of the World Trade Center here today.
He added that if BN used to come from an idea of power sharing, then BN’s idea for Malaysia in the 21st century is an agreement for prosperity.
“Of course the strength is in diversity. And what is clear is that BN is an idea of stability, prosperity and justice.
